This publication presents a selection of articles carried out within the framework of the Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas and the Urban Risk Thematic Platform in particular. The thirteen articles included here reflect diverse perspectives and interests surrounding disaster risk in several cities of Latin America. The authors, real actors from cities both large and small, face tangible issues of disaster risk in distinct settings. Through diverse theories, practices, lessons learned and critiques; this collection of articles provides a glimpse into the complexity of challenges being faced in reducing the risk of disasters in our urban environments.
