Sustainability assessment of 8 transitional shelters

The sustainability of 8 transitional shelters was assessed considering their whole life environmental impacts, cost, and technical performance. The life cycle of these shelters were modeled representing production practices specific to the countries where they were located. The results showed that proper design and material selection are key to the sustainability of the shelters. Finally, it might be more effective to try improving the technical performance of shelters rather than to try to reduce their cost or environmental impact.
