The first presentation focuses on two post-disaster reconstruction projects by A&D: a cinema in Kabul; and the improvement of conditions of two Palestinian refugee camps. Both projects show the need for long term thinking in a short term 'relief' situations, achievable by focusing on local capacity building.
The second presentation looks at the work of Stability Pact for Eastern Europe (SEE) in the Western Balkans where, following conflict, thousands of new unregistered buildings are causing problems with provision of services and damaging the environment. The Stability Pact has helped to set up national policy and provide capacity building on a regional level.
