This document was prepared for œArchitecture for Humanity? in the aftermath of the 2010 Haiti earthquake. It is intended to provide some general recommendations for improved building practices in earthquake and hurricane prone areas, to be used as a resource for builders as they begin their reconstruction efforts in Haiti. The goal in writing this manual is to convey these design and construction guidelines in a pictorial and simple manner. Complex engineering methods and detailed technical discussions were omitted for this purpose.
