Breakout group 3

As part of the Emergency Shelter Cluster Working Group (ESCWG) work
plan for 2007, Shelter Centre, NRC and CARE have been co-leading a
project to develop ‘Common Emergency Shelter and NFI Standards’. Issues
included determining appropriate NFIs based on climate and culture, the
overlap between clusters, particularly when considering household NFIs,
and the value of case studies as well as additional evaluation of past
NFI distributions.

Actions:

Shelter Centre, NRC and CARE agreed to:

  • develop an A5 booklet to aid in NFI selection, taking into consideration climate and cultural factors;
  • include case studies of both good and bad practice;
  • promote further inter-cluster coordination to address overlap issues, such as household NFIs; and
  • support more comprehensive post response evaluation.
