Dealing with disasters is a key part of the work of theInternational Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies(the International Federation). Its global emergency response andhumanitarian work is well-known, and has unfortunately becomemore prominent because of recent devastating events. Less well-known are the many hundreds of community-based activitiesbeing carried out around the world that are designed to reducepeople's vulnerability to hazards.
