This literature review contains a list of references to publications and case studies relevant to the shelter component of humanitarian response following disasters. Literature was selected from the Shelter Centre online database that contained the terms ˜Coordination', ˜Strategy', ˜Assessment' or, ˜Implementation' in the title or abstract. The abstracts of these documents were then inspected to ascertain their relevance to humanitarian shelter responses. The structure for this literature review is aligned with the key shelter sector guidelines ˜Shelter after disaster: transitional settlement and reconstruction', published by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, funded by the UK Department for International Development, and facilitated by Shelter Centre. Key conclusions of these guidelines are included in the World Bank handbook ˜Safer homes, stronger communities: a handbook for reconstructing after natural disasters' and the recently launched revision of the Sphere Standards.
