The speaker presented the Kabul Area and Settlement Service Project (KASSP), which is currently being undertaken by USAID and local implementing partners. The speaker described the rate of urbanisation growth and poverty in Kabul as being characterised by limited radial expansion and an almost total absence of vertical densification, thus bringing the vulnerability of the urban population to alarming levels.
The OFDA programme includes: transitional shelter provision, livelihoods generation, housing upgrading and repairing, earthquake mitigation designs, and host families support. USAID offered to provide a project update at the next Shelter Meeting.
