The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) was established as a result of the recent reform of the Royal Thai Government. DDPM acts as one of line agency under the Ministry of Interior.
DDPM's primary roles are prevention, mitigation, and recovery for both disasters and emergency incidents. In this regard, The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Act B. E. 2550 (DPM Act) was issued by DDPM with approval of the Royal Thai Government. Therefore, the public work on disaster and emergency incident were integrated into the DPM Act.
The Prevention and Fire Control Act which contains detail about prevention and mitigation for fire together with its related line agencies were also integrated into the DPM Act in order to strengthen capacity of implementation disaster management work in Thailand. The DPM Act comes into effect on November 9, 2007.
