Recommendations are given for the properties of the components (binder, aggregate and water), mixing, and estimating the amounts needed for typical masonry and rendering jobs. Recipes for standard mortars, giving the proportions of lime, cement and sand, are presented in a table with notes on their appropriate uses. How to use mortars is described in detail, in particular the rendering system, that might consist of three layers of different mortars, applied over a period of several days.
