Assessment of Seismic Hazard and Structural Safety of Buildings in Beira and Chimoio

Paper on seismic hazard and structural safety evaluation in Beira and Chimoio (Mozambique), since these cities were identified as being relatively close to potential seismic faults. Several parametric variations were made, in order to take into account the unknowns related to the size of the seismic fault, and the distance between the fault and the city. With the seismic scenarios defined, and through the application of different attenuation equations, the parameters which characterize the seismic motions were obtained for each scenario considered. With the obtained data, the seismic performance of selected buildings in the defined locations was assessed through the application of a recently developed displacement based method (DBELA).
