Natural disasters impact directly on women in their roles as providers of food, water and fuel. While we cannot do away with natural hazrads, we can eliminate those that we cause. It is important to stress that gender equality in disaster reduction requies, above all, empowering women to have an increasing role in leadership, management and decision-making positions.
