Calculations, investigations and structural analysis were conducted to aid Shelter Centre's production of a procurement specification of a transitional tent. The design consisted of a two bay portal frame constructed from aluminium alloy equal angle sections, galvanized steel bracing and an inner and outer flysheet. The tent was designed to be secured by sandbags placed on the outer fly, resulting in subtle load paths (with the aluminium alloy columns being compressed under uplift). The bracing at the ends of the tent was statically indeterminate and performed in counterintuitive ways
