Scoping study launch

The speaker, Humanitarian Affairs Officer of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Logistics Supporrt Unit (UN/OCHA LSU) launched the scoping study 'Exploring key changes and developments in post-disaster settlement, shelter and housing, 1982 - 2006' (OCHA, 2006). The publication represented the completion of the first phase of the revision of 'Shelter after Disaster: Guidelines for Assistance' (UNDRO, 1982), commissioned by UN/OCHA and coordinated by Tom Corsellis and Antonella Vitale, co-directors of Shelter Centre. The consultants team comprised Yasemin Aysan, Tom Corsellis, Ian Davis and Antonella Vitale.

Yasemin Aysan, representing the team of consultants and contributors to the scoping study, summarised the key findings to the Shelter Meeting participants. Antonella Vitale of Shelter Centre elicited feedback from the participant organisations and introduced the second phase of the revision of 'Shelter after Disaster: Guidelines for Assistance' (UNDRO, 1982), that will be informed by the findings of the scoping study and will run between 2006 and 2008. DFID has granted funding to Shelter Centre for this phase, while UN/OCHA has allocated funds for publishing the revised guidelines in 2008.
As part of phase 2 of the revision, Shelter Centre will commission a series of case studies.
