Mohammed Ali and Linda Richardson, RedR, led breakout groups
discussing the skills needed and the skill gaps that exist in the sector. The groups discussed ways in which these gaps and needs can be fulfilled. The major points brought up included:
- a lack of knowledge retention;
- a high need for experienced professionals;
- the need for donors to understand capacity needs; and
- the need for rosters to be maintained.
A
clear need for more general management skills, experienced staff and
higher staff retention was identified. As a result, a more complete
scoping study will be undertaken using a questionnaire and phone interview approach.
