Cash-based approaches to transitional shelter: lessons learned by the IFRC in Yogyakarta

The speaker described the work of the IFRC in supporting cash-based approaches to transitional shelter in Yogyakarta. After a careful recovery needs assessment, the IFRC provided small scale cash grants delivered through a mutual support mechanism. The project quickly became very successful, with over 12,000 shelters built in a year at less than $200 per unit.
